A Young Male Requires Treatment For His Acute Depression, Relationship Issues, and For His Chemical Dependency

December 16th, 2009 · No Comments · lonely and desperate articles

About six months ago I had lunch with a thirty-six-year-old male named Alexander who suffers from acute depression, has relationship difficulties, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As mentioned by Alexander, it is his alcohol and drug addiction and his intense depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship difficulties.

I remember hearing that a history of mental health concerns, drug abuse, and negative drinking frequently occur in the same family. Not only this, but I remember hearing that under such circumstances, an individual needs to get treatment for both medical situations and that dependency and mental health problems frequently take place in the same person.

As affirmed by Alexander, he is so dejected by his relationship difficulties and by both of his medical problems that he basically has little or no enthusiasm to accomplish much of anything. What is particularly sad about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander managed to complete one semester of grad school in English literature.

Alexander’s circumstance makes me wonder if he is an example of an individual who can look in the mirror and see his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something positive about these difficulties or if he is someone who has to hit life’s bottom before he gets drug and alcohol counseling that leads to long-term sobriety.

The Need For a Rehab Regimen He Can Believe In and a Healthcare Practitioner He Can Trust

If it would be beneficial I would expect that I could suggest more than a few websites and blogs that could possibly help him find information about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, chemical dependency information, and relationship problems. From my perspective, nevertheless, Alexander needs to find a rehab program he can believe in and follow through over the long haul and locate a healthcare practitioner he can trust.

I could be in the wrong but it seems to make sense that Alexander probably needs to look in the mirror regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and recognize the fact that he cannot abuse drugs or drink at all if he wants to get sober, stay sober, and start on the road to lasting recovery.

It may be asked how treatment would help his drug and alcohol addiction. First of all, there are some recently discovered physician-prescribed drugs that can help Alexander through his withdrawal symptoms, through the alcohol and alcohol detoxification process, and help him avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse.

Second, Alexander would learn to concede the fact that there is absolutely nothing positive about drug addiction and hazardous and excessive drinking and that engaging in one or both conditions is the route to a premature death, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, and shattered relationships.

Third, counseling for his depression and for his relationship difficulties might help him cope with these mental health problems more effectively and help create less of a need for him to engage in addictive behavior.

The Significance of Support Groups Such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are realistically numerous family members, friends, and other people who would like to help Alexander with his drug addiction and his abusive and unhealthy drinking. He more likely than not would experience greater acceptance from a recovery group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, however, rather than getting advice from individuals who drink just a few times per year or who have never used drugs.

When People Do Things They Love and About Which They Are Fervent

There’s a philosophical outlook that claims that individuals who accomplish things they like and something about which they are fervent reach a splendid place in life. Stated more exactly, when people do what they love, they hardly ever go through an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is rewarding, moreover, they become more whole and experience more happiness and delight in life and in their relationships.

When this is thought about for a few moments it becomes obvious that this uplifting mentality is the exact opposite of a life that is grounded in substance abuse because such a lifestyle removes the contentment and delight that life offers.

Due to the fact that Alexander lacks the resolve to accomplish much of anything in his life, it is evident that he badly needs a little hope for a healthier lifestyle. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is all around Alexander if he could only get to the point in life to get the counseling he needs for his extreme depression and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and continue with his treatment protocol.

Enhanced Relationships, A Meaningful Life, Self Esteem, and Positive Change Are Possibilities

Alexander is simply too young to be beaten in life. He doesn’t realize this at the moment but if he can learn how to abstain from alcohol and drugs through alcohol and drug therapy and get the treatment he needs for his acute depression, he can redirect his life and start living with direction, self-respect, and passion.

More solid relationships, a wonderful life, self respect, and productive change are certainly possibilities for Alexander if only he could get inspired to get the professional rehabilitation he needs, follow through with his treatment protocol, live his life in a healthy and drug and alcohol-free way, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about life.
