Safe Dating: Advice For Single Women

May 10th, 2010 · No Comments · lonely and desperate articles

A 70’s novel written by Judith Rossner titled Looking for Mr. Goodbar was made into a film two years after it was released. The story was about a single women, Theresa Dunn (played by Diane Keaton), who got massacred by her date. With this to remind us, what makes us sure that our next blind date doesn’t end up the same way?

There are books, magazine articles and even online websites that are dedicated to giving out advices on dating. But none of them seem to highlight the necessity of preparing for dates that turn out badly. Even with our so-called women’s intuition, we could still easily be fooled by guys with charming smiles and soft voices. That is why, over the years, the trend of unexpected violence on dates did not subside.

But with victims starting to come out and sharing their experiences with other women, there are more chances of preventing such crimes in the future. Good thing women now are more aware of these things. Thus, preparations are certainly taken. Among these precautionary measures that one can do are the following. But, remember that these can be disregarded when going out on date with a person that you’ve known for quite a period already.

1. TELL A FRIEND

Top of the list would be to inform your friends and even family members about your dating someone new. If possible, be as discreet about the details as possible. Tell them everything you could about your date, and tell them about the plans you made with him. Also, it would be wise to make them call you in intervals during your actual date. With this, your partner will be indirectly warned that he could not do anything wrong to you as you are being monitored by a someone.

2. ARRANGE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION

A lot of the reported cases of violence in the past has been successfully conducted with the help of vehicles as means of abduction or escape routes. If you do not intend to be a victim of such criminal acts, then you should prevent being set into one. Decline all of your date’s offer to pick you up or meet with you in places that are not visible to the public. Request that you should have your very first meeting in exposed areas.

It might seem romantic being offered to be picked up. But just so you know, it might also be a very big mistake. Once you get inside a stranger’s car, there is the chance that you will not get out there alive. Use your own car if you have one, or take public transportation. You could also have someone drop you off.

The end of the date is also not necessarily the end of your safeguarding. When your date tries to insist that you ride with him home, since he believes that he has established a connection with you, remain still with your refusal. Again, it is not enough that you already know his favorite color to start being alone with him. You can thank him in other ways, like a light peck on a cheek, to avoid sending the wrong message that you despise him.

There are so much more tips out there if you know where to look. You can also ask other people when it comes to blind dating. However, if you really want to go on a date that is 100% certainly safe, then try group dating or double dating. That way, you know you will never be in a trapped situation.
