I’m sure some of you would agree that shopping for a birthday gift is awful. I have always been a really bad gift giver. I just never know what I should buy for someone. For many years I have tried to find a way to give better birthday gifts. There was even a year that I gave a ski helmet as a birthday gift to a man that never skis and probably never will. He was in fact a motorcycle lover.

I thought I was buying the black helmet that I had overheard him say he wanted for his birthday. I did not know at the time that he was referring to a motorcycle helmet. After many failed attempts at buying the perfect birthday gift I decided to go online and look for suggestions on gift giving.

After doing some research on the internet about giving the perfect gift I think I have finally gotten better. Before choosing a birthday gift I try to think about who I am buying for. You should always try to think of things that person likes. I had a good idea with the helmet I just should have taken time to realize the type of helmet I should have bought. If I would have simply thought of things that he liked I would have realized that he liked motorcycles and I would have known my gift was not a good one.

You will want to consider your budget as well. Until you have decided on a budget there is no reason to go shopping. You will likely spend most of the day looking around in stores. When shopping for a woman’s birthday gift it can be a little harder. However most women do love oils, lotions, and candles. You could try to find out what scent she likes best before buying this.

Personalized gifts are a great idea, there are so many things that you can have personalized that you really have a large selection to choose from. You can personalize anything from a hand bag to the back of a leather watch. A personalized gift will let the person know that you put some thought into the gift.

The most important thing to consider when shopping for someone is their personality. You will want to consider whether they are girlie, quirky, loud, shy, or elegant. Knowing this about a person can mean the difference in a gift they will never use and a gift they will cherish for years.

As long as you take the time to think about a great gift idea before you go shopping you will come up with something the person will love. Do not just go shopping with no idea of what you want to get because you will end up buying something that you would like, not something they would like. Just because you like it does not mean that they will.
